Located on McKenzie Island, Gold Eagle Mines was the fourth mine in the Red Lake mining camp to start producing. Gold Eagle Mines Ltd. incorporated in February to take control of 24 mining claims from the Gold Eagle Syndicate. The Gold Eagle Syndicate was formed in bringing together the claims of ten individual prospectors. Red Lake. Over its nine decade history, the Red Lake Mining District in northwestern Ontario has produced more than 29 million ounces of high grade gold, making this one of the largest and highest grade gold producing districts in Canada. 1 The PureGold Mine is an important part of this history and will be a critical component of the future of the district.   The Eagle River mine is located 50 kilometres due west of Wawa, Ontario, and 60 kilometres southeast of Hemlo, and this mine owned Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (WDO-TSX) The Eagle River mine is situated in the central portion of the Mishibishu Greenstone belt which is a broad arcuate belt about 60 kilometres long and up to 18 kilometres wide.

Most gold mining activity ceased at Eagle Lake by Geological information on the Viking Occurrence, Grace Prospect, Buffalo Occurrence, Eldorado Prospect, Pioneer Island Prospect and Golden Eagle Prospect has been taken from the Ontario Geological Survey (OGS) Open File. Gold mining uses mercury and cyanide to separate the metal from ore, and leaves behind more than 20 tonnes of waste to make one gold ring (). Mining in Ontario – A Deeper Look The life of a mine can last from a few years to a few decades, but the foot-print it leaves on the landscape can be permanent – mining can change. We have the same rocks, structure, geology and grade, as the Newmont Red Lake mine just 10 kilometres away. It’s produced 25 million ounces of gold. And, I believe, our continuing discoveries of high grade gold along our trend, will prove that the PureGold Red Lake mine is in the same league.” PureGold. The Science of Discovery. Learn more. The Mishi Pit deposit has been designed as an open pit with a planned ore production rate of , tonnes per year. The mining rate will supplement the ,, tonnes per year currently planned for the underground Eagle River Mine in order to feed the Eagle River Mill, which has a capacity of , tonnes per year.   The Eagle River Mine is a clastic, shear-hosted, narrow quartz vein, high-grade gold deposit, that’s located 50 km from Wawa, Ontario, Canada. This foremost deposit is also situated in the Eagle River Deformation Zone of the Mishibishu Lake Greenstone Belt on the Eagle River Property. Detour lake is the second largest gold producing mine in canada with the largest gold reserves and substantial growth potential. The Detour Lake open pit mine is located in northeastern Ontario, approximately kilometres northeast of Timmins and kilometres by road northeast of Cochrane, within the northernmost Abitibi Greenstone Belt. In the above picture, the known gold deposit the primary indicator minerals are fine grained arsenopyrite and pyrrhotite. In this drill core there is a nicely mineralized quartz vein with both those indicators as well as the common pyrite. This peice of core did have high grade gold speckled in amongst the arsenopyrite.
